New York: Dutton, 1949. Yellow boards stamped in black. Light rubbing to spine tips, lower edges of boards; 1/4 inch deep creased tear to top margin of pp 205-06; light unobtrusive yellow spots to pp 9-10; a fine and bright copy otherwise, no previous owner marks. The yellow price-clipped jacket has dust soiling to panels; a few small dark soil spots and 1/4 inch tear to front panel; spine slightly age-darkened, with tiny corner chips, slight rubbing, and short tears to folds, to spine tips; one inch tear to lower inner corner of rear panel; tiny chips to outer corners; creases to fore margin of front flap; light rubbing and darkening to flap folds; VG otherwise and still quite respectable in appearance. Perhaps the author's best-known novel, about a "ripper" terrorizing women in Chicago. Basis for the 1958 film noir with Anita Ekberg & Gypsy Rose Lee. ; Octavo
