OLD MAN SAVARIN STORIES. Tales of Canada and Canadians. Illustrated by Charles W. Jefferys.
Edition: First Canadian issue
Toronto: S.B. Gundy, 1917. Red cloth gilt lettered. pp (xiv), 15-344 + frontispiece portrait and 8 illustrations (in black and yellow).Touch of rubbing to foot of spine; yellowing and slight foxing to page edges; Xmas, 1922, ink inscription to front free endpaper; chips and tears to fore margins of a few leaves from careless opening; else fine, cover gilt bright. The dust jacket, which bears a colour illustration by Jefferys to the front panel, is lightly dust soiled; shallow chips to spine tips just affecting the edge of some letters; small chips to outer corners; short tears to panels; in all still VG and attractive. Evidently a second state of the jacket as there is a printed label beneath the author's name on the rear panel indicating that he is also the author of "Between Earth and Sky," "When Lincoln Died," "Many-Mansioned House," etc. This edition reprints 12 of the 14 stories in OLD MAN SAVARIN AND OTHER STORIES (1895), and adds a poem and five tales. A minor Canadian literature classic with illustrations by a noted Canadian artist, quite scarce in dust jacket. Made from US (Doran) sheets. Only two of the plates show a bit of the offsetting of type commonly found in this edition.; Octavo
