Spine lightly tanned with gilt label darkened, black lettering not readable. Front board has light sunning and light damp spot to top margin; slight wear to outer corners of boards; short tears and small chip to upper inner corner of several leaves near centre from careless opening; red boards faded to orange, else a VG copy, lacking the slipcase and plain glassine wrapper. Mencken, ever good at dishing out invective, is a good sport and allows to be collected in this volume some of the invective hurled at him in the press. The first two, in the "zoological" category, are representative: " I will content myself with the bald statement that he is a weasel ". "This maggot, this ghoul of new-made graves, this buzzard ! ".
