MY MORTAL ENEMY
Edition: First Canadian issue
Toronto: Macmillan, 1926. US printed. Black cloth spine gilt lettered and yellow boards printed in light blue. Light yellowing to endpapers and page edges, else fine, with the spine gilt, which is especially prone to flaking, crisp & bright. Jacket has tiny chips to tips of slightly darkened, very slightly rubbed spine; tiny chip to upper outer corner of front panel; else fine. With 1927 pencil signature of Norman Endicott. Endicott was a Canadian missionary to China who was forced, more or less, to resign from his post during the McCarthy era owing to his comsymp, pro-Chinese views. He became something of a hero to the Chinese, somewhat like that other Canadian Dr. Norman Bethune. A very nice copy of an uncommon issue, rather scarce in jacket. The US edition came in a slipcase. I'm not sure if the Canadian issue did too.
