A novel of a young doctor who returns to a much-changed London in the years after WWI. "He was greatly changed. The war had broken the smooth continuity of his life; it had killed his mother and showed him the woman he thought he loved as she really was. Now, after years of wandering he was back in London, seeing old scences, remembering old times, a hardened cynic with the heart of a sentimentalist, a man fatally attracted to women, yet fearing them."; Octavo
