New York: Appleton, 1932. Dark blue cloth gilt, cream endpapers. Front free endpaper has a quite soft vertical crease and erased pencil marks only faintly visible, else fine and bright, no owner names. Black dust jacket has small chips, slight rubbing, and short tears to spine tips (no printing affected); tanning to rear panel and to white portions of spine; very small rubbed chips to outer corners; two inch split to lower spine fold; VG otherwise, still quite attractive, all printing present. This copy is in the usual binding of dark blue cloth for the US market. The dust jacket is the variant with the source of the William Lyon Phelps appreciation on the rear panel not credited beneath his name. No priority determined for either the binding or jacket variants. Garrison A45.I.a. This was the last novel Wharton completed and it was written as a sequel to HUDSON RIVER BRACKETED.
