THE MOON IS DOWN
Edition: First Australian Edition
London [actually, Melbourne, Australia]: William Heinemann, 1942. Small octavo, hardcover, light brown cloth, spine lettered in white. pp , 123, [1, Melbourne printer's imprint]. 1943 ink name to front pastedown hidden by jacket flap; light endpaper tanning, light toning to the text paper; tiny chip to fore edge of last leaf; tiny bruise to lower outer corner of front cover; else a near fine copy, no flaking to the delicate spine lettering. Dust jacket has nicks and mild rubbing to spine tips; short creased corner tears to upper front panel; corner creases to front flap; VG otherwise, colours bright, flap price (6s9d) intact. An attractive copy of a scarce edition. Not noted by G&P A16. Verso of title leaf states "First Published 1942 / First Australian Edition / October 1942". The type was wholly reset for this edition. The dust jacket art follows that of the US edition, but is a little different. Much scarcer than either the US or UK first printings.
