Plumer, Sr., was a Govenor and US Senator from New Hampshire, and Plumer, Jr., served in the House. Both were anti Jackson and pro John Quincy Adams, to whom this volume is dedicated. Plumer, Jr was a vocal opponent of slavery, and the collection contains one poem "Slavery".
