Father Silvy, a Jesuit, arrived in Québec in 1673, serving the Indian tribes. He travelled south of Lake Michgan between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi, and in 1678 visited the Tadoussac mission, which served Eskimos, Algonquins, and other tribes from James Bay to the St. Lawrence and from Labrador to the Great Lakes. He visited Hudson's Bay twice. The book is in three parts - the story of the manuscript, an account of his sea voyage to Hudson's Bay, and 89 letters written in his last years, 1709-11.; Octavo. 0919302439
