THE BELLS OF ST. IA by HOCKING, Joseph

THE BELLS OF ST. IA

Toronto / London: Musson / Hodder and Stoughton, no date [1911]. Octavo. Red decorated cloth stamped in gilt. (64) pp + four colour plates. Shallow 1.5 inch long depression to top outer corner of front cover, light spot to upper outer corner of rear cover; small soil spot to fore margin of a few leaves; front free endpaper covered with ink inscriptions in red and black; else a VG tight and unworn copy, still attractive copy, with rather good illustrations. Chapter VI (pp 38-47) is set in the Rocky Mountains of Canada (Alberta possibly. Cattle are mentioned). Some supernatural elements, though the book is not in Reginald nor Clute. The bells in the church at St. Ia (Cornwall) ring themselves on Christmas Eve. The hero has a vision of his wife back in England. An uncommon book in an especially uncommon issue. Note: lighter parcel, any default postage rate may be reduced, depending upon your location.
