The printed dedication reads "To All women who work, trying to bring into dark lives the brightness and hope of a better country, this book is dedicated." The novel was written to protest the exclusion of four women delegates to the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888. US first edition was in 1890. ; Octavo
