Tan illustrated cloth stamped in black. pp (2), 519, [1], 4 (ads). a few soil spots to fore edges, fore margin of front free endpaper, and on 6 pages of text near centre (nothing heavy); small red spots to lower outer quadrant of rear cover and along half an inch of the rear joint; else fine and bright, no owner names. In the rare dust jacket, blue and brown on pale green, which has red stains to the rear panel and once inch of the rear spine fold; two inch creased tear to lower rear flap and inner corner of rear panel; small chips and short fold splits at ends of spine; panels and spine sunned to cream, spine lightly tanned; VG otherwise, shows well. Note: jacket a trifle short for the book, as issued. "Issued March, 1906" on recto of title leaf. Laid in is a publisher's brouchure for New Books and New Editions, the present title not listed. List of "The Best Novels by Fegus Hume" opposite title page, the present title the last of 13, and the only one priced at $1.50, the others available for $1.25. Front flap of jacket has a list of "Recent Popular Fiction", the present title the 4th of 13 listed. Most of the adult novels there and continued on the rear flap cost $1.50. Hubin p. 422. ; Octavo
