(xvi), (359), pp +2 plates. Two yellow ring stains to rear cover, else a fine copy. First published in 1894, this was the first critical book on Thomas Hardy. Lane's bibliography is descriptive. This edition adds the chapter by Barton and the portrait by Hill. Lionel Johnson was an English poet who was gay and alcoholic. He introduced his lover Lord Alfred Douglas to Oscar Wilde and died at age 35.
