Harvgrave was a cartoonist who founded a group for boys called the Kindred of the Kimbo Kift (later to become the Green Shirts), a rival to the Boy Scouts, with which he had been involved but became disillusioned by Baden-Powell's militaristic bent. Hargrave later became involved with the crank economic theory Social Credit.
