INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR and by the illustrator " For ____, The year does nothing else but open & shut. Best wishes, Ted" and below that in Baskin's hand "from Leonard Baskin". Also signed "Ted Hughes" above the inscription. The inscribee is a Toronto author and impresario who brought Hughes to Toronto for a reading, and his 1983 pencil name is at top of the half-title page. "The heart of this new poetry collection - the seventh from one of England's finest poets - is a series of thirty-four poems about the ordinary life of serious farming."
