HUNTING SONGS AND BALLADS
London: William Pickering, 1846. Quarto, original dark green leather spine gilt lettered and buff mottled boards. pp viii, 152. Boards have small soil spots, minor rubbing, bit of wear to outer corners; foxing to endpapers, with damp stains along bottom margin of front endpapers; scattered mild foxing and light soil spots in text margins; the original red paper covering the boards has perished; else a VG clean and tight copy, no owner names. Illustrated title page and nice vignette head and tail pieces. List of 200 subscribers at front, suggesting a fairly small edition. A collection of fox hunting verse, dedicated to Lord John J.R. Manners, M.P., who the author thanks for his efforts to restore sporting holidays to the English working man. The Dedication is dated 4 June, 1846. Originally published Chester, 1834, with a hand-coloured frontispiece and 12 other plates, the book was reprinted and revised several times.
