Octavo, dark green pictorial bevel edge cloth stamped in black, gilt and blind. pp viii, (297) + frontispiece and 7 other plates. All edges gilt. Splits to cloth at joints neatly repaired; moderate wear to spine ends; damp stain to lower inner corner of front cover not showing much but having caused slight swelling of the cloth inside and out; light 1881 ink gift inscription at front; partial crack to front inner hinge neatly repaired; light offset yellowing to endpapers and Dedication leaf; ink name on blank recto of frontispiece; damp stain to about half the frontispiece and title leaf, leaving a pronounced tide mark; a few scattered damp stains in margins, scattered light foxing; in all, just a good copy, but not really worn, now tight in the binding, clean. The play version of Alice is in two acts and occupies pp 1-64. Also contains Snowdrop, The Bear Prince, and Jack and the Princess Who Never Laughed, plus many pages of music. See Lovett 895-96. who lacked the first edition. A fairly scarce book, much scarcer than the 1882 companion volume of Alice Thro' the Looking Glass and other fairy plays for children.
