Half-title illustration by Herbert White, all other drawings by the author. Red spinkled page edges. Bound in full calf, spine with raised bands, gilt ornament, label, "Ramsey Grammar School" in gilt on front cover, ink 1860 prize inscription to "William H. Howitt" on front blank. Broken front joint, cracked inner hinge, neatly repaired, joint now firm; damp stain to lower front and rear covers; else VG externally, spine attractive, not rubbed nor chipped; internally fine. Almost half the book is about Italy.
