Edition: First Canadian issue
Toronto: Macmillan, 1930. Light blue cloth lettered and ruled in black, blind borders. Made from UK sheets with integral title pp 352. Xmas, 1930, ink gift inscription at front; light yellowing and one small tan spot to page edges; faint sunning at head of spine; else fine. Dust jacket has a large triangular chip at head of spine with loss of almost all of the title; smaller corner chip at foot of spine (no lettering lost); closed tear to front spine fold nternally mended; small chips to upper corners of rear panel; thus, just fair but pictorial front panel shows well. Watters p. 276. A novel about the Toronto art world, "it contains many easily recognizable points of local colour. It is the story of an artist who begins his career after the war as a commercial salesman for a large advertising firm and marries a millionaire's daughter. They quarrel bitterly and separate, and Daragon goes to live among a colony of artists and struggles to become a great painter." Also noted in orange cloth. I have a feeling this blue cloth is primary as it is a very typical binding of the British publisher Hodder & Stoughton. Montreal author's only novel. He published two books of essays as "P. O'D." Scarce in any sort of jacket.
