"Ryerson was appointed superintendent of schools for Upper Canada in 1844. Before entering upon his duties he traveled in Europe and America examining state educational systems. From his observations he repaired this report, a plan for a public school system in Upper Canada. In June, 1846, it became the basis of a reorganization of the provincial system, and is still the foundation of elementary education in this province." - TPL 2801.; Octavo
