THE UNREASONING HEART

New York: Dodd, Mead, 1946. Inscribed by Author; Second printing, same month as the first. Red cloth. pp (4), 236. Small bruise to upper outer corners of covers, minor rubbing to foot of spine, small skinned spot to front free endpaper, mainly fine otherwise. Thin dust jacket spine is a bit yellowed, with chips at ends, horizontal tears and vertical spits to folds, all neatly repaired internally and the whole now looking fairly respectable in a plastic wrapper. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "To Rose Helen Francis, with best wishes, Constance Beresford-Howe". Author's first book, published at age 24, just after graduation from McGill, the novel was a winner of the Dodd, Mead Intercollegiate Literary Fellowship. A novel of Montreal, now uncommon and scarce in jacket, it was reprinted in paperback in 1978. The author, who published 10 novels, is best known for THE BOOK OF EVE. ; Signed by Author
