"Reprinted by permission of The Ridgeway Company and by arrangement with Harper and Brothers". This short story was first published in Everybody's Magazine, Sept., 1907. Everybody's was a Ridgeway publication. Harper published THE JUDGEMENT OF EVE (along with other stories) in 1908, They printed two copies (20 pp) of the title story in 1907 for deposit in the Library of Congress to secure copyright. It would appear that the present edition was the first published separate edition. May Sinclair. English, was a noted suffragist, feminist and prolific author, also noted as a critic of modernist poetry, coining the phrase "stream of consciousness" in a literary context.
