Octavo, brick cloth lettered and decorated in gilt, black and blind, light blue endpapers. pp xvi, 360 + 24 pp catalogue dated April, 1886, with this title, the first listed, advertised as ready "shortly" + frontispiece portrait with tissue guard. Book a bit leaned; inner hinges cracked but firm; spine lightly darkened, with gilt dulled, nicks and modest wear at ends; yellowing to page edges and to first and last leaf (offset from acidic endpapers); text paper lightly toned; slight rubbing to joints; faint pencil name at front; else a VG clean, tight and unworn copy. There was also a London: Saxon, 1886, translation by M. French Sheldon which preceded slightly.
