ALMAYER'S FOLLY. A Story of an Eastern River.
Edition: First Canadian issue
Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, no date . Green cloth lettered and ruled in black. 272 pp. Spine darkened, with wear across head, partial cloth split to rear joint neatly repaired, scarcely visible; page edges and endpapers a bit yellowed; tidy ink name at front; else a VG+ clean, tight and unworn copy of a somewhat fragile book. The author's first book, ALYMAYER'S FOLLY was first published in the UK and the US in 1895, and though there wasn't a Canadian issue until 26 years later, the Canadian issue was printed from plates of the UK first edition, presumed second state, with typo on page 110 corrected, and is thus bibliographically a part of the first edition. There wasn't a true, reset second edition until 1930. Uncommon issue of an important book.
