Decorations by Charles Edward Hooper. The fifth volume in Murray's Half-Crown Novels series. Spine and inner margins of covers lightly sunned, light flaking to gilt lettering on front cover, else a bright and tight near fine copy, no owners. Previously published in New York in 1900, this short historical romance was Tarkington's second book. It was later adapted as a play and an operetta, and was the basis of two films. in 1924 and 1946, the first starring Rudolph Valentino. A nice piece of fin-de-siècle bookmaking - unusual to see decorated yapp edges.
