THE FLAMING TERRAPIN by CAMPBELL, Roy

THE FLAMING TERRAPIN

Edition: First printing

London: Cape, 1924. Orange boards with tan cloth spine with paper label. Label is tanned, with tiny chips. VG jacketless copy, with publisher's reply postcard laid in. The noted South African poet's first book. Campbell, quite a good poet, translator, and scholar, has been neglected for some years, probably because of his right wing stances (pro-Franco; anti-Bloomsbury; practicing Catholic). He was considered by T. S. Eliot, Dylan Thomas and Edith Sitwell to have been one of the best poets of the period between the First and Second World Wars.
