Page edges yellowed, inner hinges partially cracked but firm; spine a bit darkened with gilt lettering flaked away; text has a few yellowed patches from laid in newspaper clippings, just a few scattered ink underlines, good unworn copy otherwise. Tipped in at front is a carbon copy of a 1932 typed letter from the author to W.A. Munn of St John's Newfoundland. Three single spaced paragraphs responding to questions, and correcting a newspaper account of the Chesapeake. She was entirely built of fir, which splintered and killed a lot of men during her battle with the Shannon. Ink gift inscription and notes of Munn on front free endpaper.
