Yellowing to fore and bottom page edges, private bookplate at front. else a fine copy, lacking the dust jacket. Edition of 1550 copies (1500 for sale), this is # 215. The plates were printed by the Knudsen process, a half-tone lithography process still in use today and at the time at the time superior to any other known method of photo and picture reproduction. Balzac's erotic DROLL STORIES were published in three sets of ten stories each in 1832, 1833, and 1837. The bookplate, that of a Canadian collector, is of the shell-damaged Basilique d'Albert in France, 1914-18, with it gilded leaning virgin, a popular image from the Somme during WWI.
