London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1931. Inscribed by Author; Dark blue cloth. pp (2), xiv, 355 + frontispiece portrait and 19 folding maps, one map in text. Creases to head of spine, small soft bumps to outer corners, else fine. Black matte dust jacket has nicks and crease at head of very lightly sunned spine; minor rubbing; near fine otherwise. Inscribed by the author "To ____, with best wishes, Hubert Gough, 10 Nov., 1931." Gough commanded the Fifth Army until March, 1918, when he was replaced, owing to the massive losses suffered by his troops. The book was ghost written by the novelist Bernard Newman. The inscribee went to France in 1915 as a major with the C.E.F. and served 1916-19 as a court martial officer with the Canadian Corps. 1.5 kg parcel.; Tall octavo; Signed by Author
