SUNSHINE SKETCHES OF A LITTLE TOWN. With a Frontispiece by Cyrus Cuneo
Red cloth gilt lettered. (xiv), 262 pp + colour frontispiece. Nicks to ends of lightly sunned spine; light sunning to inner upper margin of rear cover; offset tanning to free endpapers; ink owner name at front; else a VG+ clean and tight unworn copy of Leacock's best book, a CanLit high spot. The "Little Town" of Mariposa was based on his hometown Orillia, Ontario. Made from sheets of the UK first printing, the only difference being that this Canadian issue bears the Bell & Cockburn spine imprint and drops the ads found at the rear of the UK edition (which is the true first by a few weeks). Spadoni A11a.2. [Persons waiting for a copy in a dust jacket can pretty much forget it. Spadoni didn't locate one, I've never seen one, and most probably, neither will you. But it had one.] There was more than one printing in 1912, but this is a first printing (4.5 k copies printed), and a nice copy.
