New York: Revell, c.1904 (1905?). Fourth printing, adding a new author note on page 10. Dark blue pictorial cloth stamped in green and white, gilt lettered, olive decorated and photographic endpapers. pp (3)-327 + (4) pp ads. First 12 pages are on coated paper and contain photos plus a map. 1906 ink inscription on half-title dated Jan., 1906; tan damp stain to lower margin of late leaves, yellowing to page edges, else a fine, bright copy. In his new author note Duncan stoutly denies that the novel is based on Dr. Wilfred Grenfell, but most references disagree. Duncan did travel to Labrador on behalf of McClure's magazine with the intent to meet Grenfell, and finally did so in 1903.
