THE STREETS OF ASKELON
Edition: First printing
New York: M. Evans, 1972. Cloth and boards. blue top page edges. Fine copy. Dust jacket has a narrow one inch vertical chip a foot of spine, VG otherwise. The story of Bart O'Shea, famous drunken Irish poet, and his visit to Montreal at the invitation of McGill University. He immediately gets arrested in a bawdy house brawl and scandalizes the city with an unflattering TV interview. His lecture at McGill is cancelled and a student riot ensues. Probably written with Dylan Thomas very much in mind (he read once at McGill on 28 Feb. 1952). Now an uncommon novel. Aspler went on to become a well-known Canadian wine journalist. ; Octavo
