POGANUC PEOPLE: their loves and lives. With illustrations

Edition: First Canadian Edition

Toronto: Rose-Belford, 1878. Mauve sand grain cloth lettered and decorated in gilt, blind ornament on rear cover, dark green endpapers. pp vi, (7)-375, [1], (8), ads + frontispiece and one other plate at p 240. Contents leaf calls for illustrations at front, pp 67, 109, and 226. There were never any plates at pp 67 and 109 in this copy, nor anywhere else that I can see. We note another copy with all four plates, but not in the called-for places. Not out of character for this slipshod publisher. List of five Stowe titles on verso of half-title leaf ends with this title, "Just out". Bookseller's ticket at front (J. Duriie & Son, Ottawa); pencil name on front free endpaper; book leaned, page edges yellowed; spine sunned to tan; a few spots to covers; text has one corner crease and just a few small soil spots; else a VG unworn copy. BAL 19488 note. A piracy, published the same year as the US first. ; Octavo
