Green wave grain cloth elaborated decorated and lettered in gilt on spine and front cover, decorated in blind on rear cover, all edges gilt, cream endpapers. Vol. I: pp viii, 376 + illustrated half-title and folding plate at p.1. Vol. II: pp viii, 376 + frontispiece illustration and illustrated half-title. Index at front. Tipped in slip at rear advertising a new and revised edition of Beeton's Penny Dictionary, with the first number due 31 May, 1862. Text in double columns with many vignette illustrations. Just a few soil spots in text; pp 57-58 of volume II a little darkened and with small chips in margins, professionally repaired with rice paper (no text lost); half-title of Vol. I lacks a piece of the lower inner corner and is mounted on cream paper; front free endpaper of Vol. I renewed with cream paper; otherwise quite nice, externally near fine. Beeton published the magazine 1855-74. The New Series was published 1863-70. ; Octavo
