AND SHAME THE DEVIL (leather binding)
Edition: First US edition
New York: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1972. Bound in half brown morocco and brown cloth, spine with raised bands and gilt ornament, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Spine very lightly sunned, else a fine copy. Most unusual to see a modern crime novel in a bespoke leather binding. Sometimes publishers bind a copy or two in leather for the author's own library, and while that is plausible in this case, I can offer no evidence that is so. Woods has long lived in Nova Scotia, Canada, where she began writing, but has set all of her novels in her native England.
