Clapp was a member of the Oxford Group and was under the tutelage of Sam Shoemaker but could not stay sober until he met Bill Wilson, co-fonder of A.A.. He would have been a member of the "Alcoholic squadron" of the Oxford Groups and was one of Bill's first "pigeons". Clapp got sober in October, 1935, and was still sober at time of publication. A desirable early Alcoholics Anonymous book, scarce in any condition.
