LABOR AND THE ANGEL by SCOTT, Duncan Campbell

LABOR AND THE ANGEL

Edition: First printing

Boston: Copeland and Day, 1898. Inscribed by Author; Green cloth with paper spine label, fore and bottom edges rough trimmed. pp [4], (8), (61), [7]. Spine label darkened and rubbed; slight spotting to front cover, not very noticeable, near fine otherwise. Inscribed at front "To Gilbert Parker with admiration and in constant friendship Duncan C Scott. Apl 99". Sir Gilbert Parker (1862-1932) was one of the most popular Canadian novelists of his day and was as well a British politician and a poet. Kraus, Copeland and Day, #89. Edition size not stated but it is noted that 384 copies remained in stock in May, 1899, suggesting to me that probably 500 copies were printed. This was Scott's second book of poetry and it contains "The Piper of Arll", perhaps his best-known poem as well as two poems about Indian women, a subject he repeatedly returned to. A very scarce little book with an excellent Canadian literary association. ; 12mo; Signed by Author
