SHAKESPEARE'S DOG (his own copy) by ROOKE, Leon

SHAKESPEARE'S DOG (his own copy)

Edition: First Canadian issue

Toronto: Stoddart, 1983. Black cloth and boards, mauve topstain. THE AUTHOR'S OWN COPY, signed in a large, loose, atypical hand, and full of his ink notes. Book has wear to spine ends and outer corners, page edges yellowed, top edges faded; tan spot to fore edges with some penetration into text margins; just good. The thin dust jacket has a large chip at top of front panel and small chips and tears to spine ends and outer corners; just good. His notes on the front endpapers include notes on which sections he would read at Harbourfront, the dates of a tour, newspapers which plugged the book, and more. The text has many underlinings and margin notes as well as some tape residue and one pasted in airmail sticker (in a margin). The notes seem mainly for use at readings and include notes on sound effects. Laid in are some small notes; part of an airmail envelope from Connie Rooke which includes the name of Clark Blaise and one page which appears to be part (or all) of a short short story. I purchased Rooke's library in 2020. This novel won a Governor-General's Award. ; Octavo; Signed by Author
