Flewellyn was born in Smithville, Ontario, and moved to Lockport, NY, in 1869 upon her marriage. This was the first of her two novels. The publisher is an interesting one, specializing in social justice issues. Her issues were temperance and Sabbath observance. There was a Toronto edition in 1894.
