With Headley's ink Santa Barbara ownership inscription at top of dedication page, with his rubber stamped name and hand-written ink personal library number at bottom of front pastedown, entirely hidden by the jacket flap, and with Osborne's Book Store, Santa Barbara, gilt ticket at rear. Hubert Klyne Headley, teacher, composer, pianist, and conductor of the University of California Symphony in Santa Barbara, had just completed his California Suite for orchestra for the inauguration of the Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco. He had been invited to perform at the MacDowell Colony in 1940, and it was no doubt excerpts from his California Suite that Wilder referred to. Now in a facsimile first issue dust jacket, which is as new. A winner of a Pulitzer Prize and one of the most famous plays of the American theatre, performed countless times in schools and by amateur and professional companies. It was also the basis for the 1940 Sam Wood film featuring William Holden, Martha Scott, Fay Bainter, and Beulah Bondi.
