Green on cream pictorial endpapers. xviii, 371, (3) pp. Illustrations in text. In addition to the translation, Bedford-Jones adds a 3 page postscript to the Soulie de Morant preface. Ink name and two rubber stamps to front endpapers; rubber stamp to verso of front free endpaper; hairline crack to front inner hinge neatly reglued; VG otherwise. A scarce edition. Watters p. 245. One of the most famous novels of China, written toward the end of the 14th century by an author who used the pen name Ming-tsiao Chong-jen.
