THE DARK ISLAND
Edition: First printing
London: Hogarth Press, 1934. Octavo. Green cloth, cream endpapers, with map to front pastedown. Foxing to top page edges; light endpaper tanning from offsetting of binding; else a fine copy. White jacket is lightly dust-soiled to the panels; one inch tear to top and to bottom edge of front panel; nicks to spine tips, edges of rear panel; one very small internal repair; VG+. This is the scarce variant for the colonial market (this one no doubt for Canada) with "Colonial Edition" in red to spine and lower margin of front panel of jacket. Woolmer 351. Total edition of 10,590, copies, which would have included the colonial copies (likely only a few hundred such) and the remainder copies issed in 1943 in a new dust jacket. Quite a nice copy, scarce in this condition. The map and jacket designed by Ben Nicolson, though he has provided no jacket illustration, doing only the lettering on the front panel.
