An amusing posthumously published musical anecdote about his time studying musicology in Tours, France in the late 1930's and what lead him to become a sackbut virtuoso and author of "Twelve Tone Partita for Unaccompanied Sackbut on Zen Themes", leading one critic to write "Griffin towers above your ordinary sackbuttist".
