THREE WOGS

Edition: First printing

Boston: Gambit, 1972. Red and reddish brown cloth. Small light damp to upper outer corner of front pastedown (completely hidded by jacket flap); else fine. The unusual dust jacket - with white front panel reproducing (only) first page of text, pink spine and rear panel with author and title sideways on the rear panel - has dust soiling and two short edge tears to front panel; spine rubbed to tips; rear panel a bit soiled & rubbed, with damp stain to lower fore margin not really visible as a stain externally but with some light pink staining internally to the flap fold that hasn't affected the book itself; in all, about VG, flap price intact. This jacket has the author photo on rear flap in sepia and with flap copy stating "a Trappist monastery". There has been some uncertainty about issue points on this jacket, but it appears the truth is that all first printings had this jacket, while the jacket on second printings does vary (and is thus second issue). First book from a writer who made his mark right away with an original and unusual style and who went on to write what may be his masterpiece, DARCONVILLE'S CAT.; Octavo
