Vol. II has a long tear to plate at p. 133 (electric eel) neatly repaired on the blank side; likewise ra epair to a short tear to bottom margin of plate at p 164 (rostrated chaelodon) only slight entering the background of the image; scattered foxing and small brown soil spots, especially to margins of plates though the images are mostly unaffected; Vol. I just a little leaned; in all, a VG set, sound in the attrative bindings, no damp stains. Volume I treats the quadrupeds and birds, Volume II reptiles, fish, insects, and shellfish. Volume III covers plants and minerals. The b&w aquatints, by William Daniell (1769-1837), an important British landscape and marine painter and engraver, are especially interesting for their full frontal realism, if distorted scale, against dramatic backgrounds. His book on India, ORIENTAL SCENERY, is highly prized.
