Phoenix, Arizona: PBSW Supply & Equipment Co., no date, 1898. Light green cloth. pp (63), printed in brown ink and rough textured tan paper. Amateur illustrations by Preston Baumgartner. New Appreciation by the publisher Hilliard T. Brooke. Spine a bit darkened, light darkening and faint spotting to covers; front inner hinge partially cracked but firm; tide mark to fore edge of front and rear free endpaper; VG otherwise. First published in 1898, the book had been an inspiration for Brooke for many years. It is a collection of inspirational religious prose with some poems by famous poets of yore. Brooke was for a time an Arizona state senator. What is interesting to me about this book is that laid in is a typed noted on A.A. General Service Headquarters, New York, letterhead. Dated 20 May, 1953 and signed "Marian" (Mallet), Conference Secretary. It was addressed to a person in Toronto and explains that this book was given to all attendees at the 3rd General Service Conference by the delegate from Arizona. However, there weren't enough to go around, so the donor, Hilliard T. Brooke, has sent some more copies to be passed along to those who didn't get one. I don't know if Senator Brooke was an A.A. member, but he would seem to have been at least a fellow traveler. ; Octavo
