Front cover lightly mottled, very light yellowing to page edges with faint foxing to top page edges, else fine. Price-clipped jacket has light rubbing to folds and front panel, slight soiling and a couple small tears to rear panel, very shallow chip across head of spine, VG otherwise, still attractive. First novel published in the UK by this Scottish author (and junkie). First published Paris: Olympia Press, 1955, in paper covers, as by "Francis Lengel" (a sexier, less literary text). Basis for the good 2003 film directed by Alexander MacKenzie and starring Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton.
