The author, having graduated from the University of Toronto in the Spring of 1907 at age 22, went to German to study for an M.A., his subject being Bismarck's struggle with the Catholic Church in Prussia. He finished a draft of his thesis but died of a heart condition on 01 July, 1908. Dr. G.H. Needler prepared the manuscript for the press.
