The great naturalist investigates the jungles of British Guiana. Something of a modern classic, it was reprinted by the Modern Library.

This edition adds an eight page author's "A Note on the Genesis of THE GUYANA QUARTET. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR to a Canadian author and impresario who brought him to Toronto for a reading "____, every good wish. Toronto October 1988". Laid in is a short ANS on hotel note paper dated 19 October to the inscribee talking about an interview and other things, Inscribee's ink name and 1988 date at front.

It won the Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize from the Royal Society of Literature for best regional novel The book itself is uncommon in first editon and this proof is very scarce.
