Vercruysse (1773) A2 and A3 describes two variants, listing this one first, but not giving any reason for that order. Tchemerzine VI, 245b. One of several works in which Holbach, the outspoken and influential atheist of the Englightenment, argues for principles of government based solely on social utility and the common good. He advocated the abolition of class privileges, progressive taxation, separation of church and state, religious toleration, secular public education, freedom of the press, and freedom of speech - familiar principles in western democracies today.
